London-based Energean's $1 billion gas expansion project is threatened by a government security halt following U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran, which sparked a conflict that has spread across the Gulf. Mathios Rigas, the company's representative, stated that the suspension was entirely influenced by government security decisions. The planned launch of Katlan, a natural gas field discovered in 2022, could be delayed if the conflict hasn't been resolved by the end of the conflict. Despite regional supply shortages and regional gas shortages, Eenergean estimates that Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and their neighbours need over 100 bcm of gas annually. The company has booked capacity to supply 1 bcm annually from Israel to Egypt through a planned pipeline, which is significantly cheaper than imported LNG.
