NASA's Automated Lunar and Meteor Observatory (ALaMO), a stargazing outpost at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, has been observing meteors, impacts on the Moon for two decades. The ALaMO, which began operations on March 12, 2006, supports NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office in tracking meteors and monitoring lunar impacts. Since then, the observatory has observed over 400 lunar impacts and helped scientists better understand the hazards astronauts may encounter beyond Earth’s atmosphere. In 2008, the first all-sky camera installed at the observator helped launch the NASA All Sky Fireball Network, which includes 15 cameras across the United States that capture bright meteors streaking across the night sky. The observatory also contributes to asteroid research and asteroid research.
