Iranian-backed militias across the Middle East have launched strikes against American forces and partners in response to the U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran, which killed the country's supreme leader and military leadership. An Iranian-backed militia in Iraq and Hezbollah in Lebanon have joined the fight, indicating a widening conflict. The Iraqi Shiite militia, backed by Iran, claimed a drone attack on Monday targeting U.N. troops at the Baghdad airport and another on Sunday against a U.K. air base. Israel responded with strikes against Beirut and southern Lebanon, and announced it would go on the offensive against Hezbollah. The Houthis in Yemen have reportedly issued a statement of support for Tehran, but have not yet announced plans to join military strikes. At least four U.
