Voters in Lakewood have overwhelmingly approved four measures restoring the zoning code the city had before it was changed to encourage more home building. The measures passed by nearly 2-to-1 ratios, with nearly 14,000 votes in favor of repealing each ordinance and approximately 7,500 votes to keep them. This victory defeats those pushing for more density in the state’s fifth-largest city, which aims to increase housing supply and lower home prices. Cathy Kentner, head of the anti-rezoning committee Lakewood For All, said she was pleased with the result, calling it a "win for the people over big-money special interests". Critics argued that the changes would endanger the character of established neighborhoods while not actually help reduce home prices in a notoriously expensive metro housing market.
