A quick-moving clipper system is set to unleash hurricane-force winds and heavy snowfall across the central U.S. as it moves east, bringing an end to the recent surge of warm temperatures. The system is expected to push east across the border between cool air in the northern United States and Arctic air over Canada, creating an elevated wildfire risk. Strong wind gusts are expected to reach up to 60–80 mph, potentially causing power outages and potentially damaging property. The fire threat will be particularly acute in regions not yet seeing seasonal greenup, particularly in the Nebraska Panhandle and parts around Cheyenne, Wyoming. Snowfall along a much of the region will be vulnerable to blowing and drifting due to the powerful winds.
