Spring brings baby wildlife to Northeast Ohio

The Mentor-on-the-Lake Police Department in Ohio has issued a warning about the most frequent calls about baby animals and wildlife in and around homes. Most cases are normal wildlife behavior, not an emergency, and if a fawn is not injured, leave it alone. A baby opossum less than 7-9in long alone indicates it fell off its mother's back and will not return, and that baby will need to be rescued promptly. Mothers often leave their babies hidden during the day and return to feed them later. If you hear noises, assume babies are present and use a bright light or radio near the den. If animals have left, then seal entry points to prevent them from returning.
