Healthcare professionals reveal how solar panels are preventing life-threatening situations: 'Long-term consequences for the health of people'

Solar power has been instrumental in maintaining healthcare clinics in Puerto Rico during power outages, helping them stay powered during these disruptions. Since 2017, Direct Relief has funded 15 solar installations in community clinics and two fire stations. This has helped bolster access to treatment as the island continues to deal with ongoing power disruptions and grid unreliability. The San Juan-based Profamilias clinic, which used to rely on generators for running its pharmacy and medications refrigerated during power disruptions, now uses solar power instead. The charity also offers free tools for home battery storage options, and an unbiased energy adviser to help consumers choose the best installer.
