Citi has released a new outlook for the U.S. exchange-traded fund (ETF) industry, predicting that the industry will more than double over the next five years. The bank expects U.K. ETF assets to rise from $10.4 trillion in 2025 to $25 trillion by 2030, and that total could reach $42 trillion by 2035. The type of product Citi expects to drive most of this growth is active, with active ETFs expected to double their share of total ETF assets from 10% to 21%. Active funds currently account for 84% of all total ETF launches so far in 2026. The shift from old-school mutual funds to ETFs is rapidly transforming the investment landscape.
