Denmark's Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, is seeking a third term after successfully leading the Social Democrats for nearly 11 years, the longest tenure of any prime minister since Thorvald Stauning in 1942. Her popularity has been high due to her strong stance on immigration, welfare, labour rules, and borders, but she has since changed her stance regarding EU membership and defence spending. Her government has been criticised for ordering Denmark's entire mink population culled over fears of the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to a public inquiry which found that the move lacked a legal basis and misled the public. Frederiken's popularity has also been high, with support for the Social Democrat party dropping to 17% in December, well below the 28% it won in 2022.
