Chinese military activity around Taiwan has decreased sharply in recent weeks, with no flights in the past week and a sudden decrease in military manoeuvres. This could indicate Beijing is recalibrating its pressure on Taipei. China has dispatched 460 military planes into Taiwan's air defence identification zone this year, a 46.5% decrease from the previous year. This drop may be due to Chinese President Xi Jinping's anticipated meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. Su Tzu-yun, a research fellow at Taiwan's top military think tank, the Institute for National Defence and Security Research, suggested changes to Chinese forces' command structure could be the primary reason for the decrease. However, China's navy and coast guard remain active, indicating it has only dialed down the more politically sensitive air activity.
