Conservative MP for Basildon, Sir David Amess, could be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian honour. His nomination has been put forward by Southend resident Karim Annabi, who supports the idea. The White House has acknowledged the nomination and is currently reviewing it. The award can be given post-humously and to non-US citizens. The nomination forms part of the SirDavid Amess Peace Initiative, an international interfaith project in memory of the late MP, which aims to promote religious, racial and political unity while raising funds for causes championed by Sir David during his lifetime.
