A record-breaking heat wave is set to settle over western states starting next week, following the warmest winter ever recorded for much of the American West. Daniel Swain, a weather and climate scientist at the University of California, predicts that the hottest March temperatures in the western U.S. will be above previous records by up to five to 10 degrees, with parts of the Southwest expected to experience temperatures 30 degrees above normal March averages. In Salt Lake City, it's already pushing 70 degrees and expected to reach the 80s by mid-next-week. In southern Utah, St. George is forecast to reach just shy of 100 degrees by Thursday, while Los Angeles is expected to see temperatures reach the 90s and potentially reach triple digits over the weekend. Despite the high temperatures, Swain believes there will be no'miracle March' due to forecasts suggesting these temperatures will last for a long time. Despite this, he also warns that the heatwave will impact water supply, as half of the West's water supply is dependent on snowpack.
