Albuquerque's Donald Sanchez has announced that he will retire from boxing following a split decision to Jeremy Smith on a BKFC Fight Night event in Hollywood, Florida. This decision, which could have been reversed, has not changed Sanchez's mind. Sanchez, who compiled a 30-20 record as an MMA fighter, is 5-3 in BKF competition. He had hoped to avenge his loss by unanimous decision to Smith in Sanchez's first bare-knuckle fight in August 2022. The New Mexico Golden Gloves tournament was held in Roswell, and 10 New Mexico boxers are eligible to compete at Colorado-New Mexico Golden Globes regionals April 18 in Loveland, Colorado. The winners at regionals will then go on to represent New Mexico at Golden Gloves nationals.
