Surrounding counties have a burn ban in effect, but Lubbock does not

As of March 25, Lubbock, Hockley and Terry counties are the only counties in the area without a mandated burn ban in place. This comes as the weather is predicted to become warmer and more unpredictable with wind gusts. Associate Fire Chief, Kevin Henricks, stated that this year's burn ban would result in more calls from his department due to the potential for someone burning a trash pile on a sunny day. However, if necessary, the decision would be made with the County Commissioners Court, which will enforce the ban. County Judge Curtis Parrish and Henricks encouraged people to use common sense about fire usage.
