The Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts has raised concerns about the Western Nebraska Regional Airport Authority (WARA), raising questions about spending and internal controls. The Auditor's office received complaints that the airport’s director used an Authority-owned pickup for personal purposes, citing an incident where a truck believed to belong to the airport was seen pulling a Kiwanis Club of Scottsbluff trailer during the 2024 ScottsBluff Christmas Parade. The letter also highlighted concerns about purchases made during an Airport Law Workshop conference in Washington, D.C., attended by the director in 2025. The auditor's office recommended procedures to ensure vehicles are used only for authorized governmental purposes and adoption of a formal written policy regarding vehicle use.
