Sen. Lee threatens to ‘nuke’ filibuster over stalled SAVE America Act

Utah Sen. Mike Lee, chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, has threatened to end the U.S. Senate filibuster if Senate rules are not changed to require in-person Democrat opposition to block a vote on his SAVE America Act. The bill, which would require proof-of-citizenship and voter ID requirements in federal elections, has been stalled by Democratic senators who have prevented a vote. Lee's proposal for a "talking filibuster" failed as some Republicans were wary of dismantling current rules. He accused Democrats of outsourcing real debate on the issue to them.
