Tayla Clement, a 28-year-old New Zealander, was born with Moebius syndrome, a rare neurological condition that causes facial paralysis and restricts her mobility in her eyebrows and upper lip. She was severely bullied throughout her childhood for her inability to smile and underwent the "smile surgery" at 11. This operation was unsuccessful, leading to severe clinical depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. She turned to social media as an outlet to share her story and eventually gained tens of thousands of followers.
