Escobar honors El Paso leaders at third Congressional Commendation Ceremony

El Pasoans were honored at Congresswoman Veronica Escobar's third Congressional Commendation Ceremony. The honorees included Carlos Spector, an immigration attorney, U.S. Air Force veteran, and human rights advocate whose work impacted asylum law for Mexican nationals fleeing violence. Sadok El Ghoul, Ph.D., a finance scholar and expert in corporate governance at the University of Texas at El Paso’s Woody L. Hunt College of Business, received the Yvan Allaire Medal from the Royal Society of Canada. Leah Juarez, a senior at Horizon High School, was recognized for her resilience after a serious injury. Dr. Dennis Bixler-Marquez, Ph., was honored for his contributions to education and cultural advocacy. Rosa Guerrero was honored as a computer science professor at UTEP and the first Hispanic living educator in her honor.
