Uber is partnering with Croatian startup Verne, founder of Croatian electric vehicle maker Rimac Group, to launch a commercial robotaxi service in Europe, starting in Zagreb, Croatia. The partnership comes through a strategic partnership with Uber, Chinese autonomous vehicle company Pony.ai, and Verne's own startup, Verne. The companies have not provided a specific launch date for the commercial service. Verne will own and operate the fleet, while Uber will provide its ride-hailing network. Uber also plans to invest an undisclosed amount into Verne and support future expansion as a strategic partner. The service will use the Ponyai-BAIC vehicle, the Arcfox Alpha T5, and users will be able to hail it via Uber and VerNE's own app. Verje started in 2019 as a project within Rimac group, a growing ecosystem of companies including Rimac Bugatti, Rimac Energy, and Rimac Technology.
