The White House has announced that Vice President JD Vance will spearhead an effort to combat Medicaid fraud, following President Donald Trump's executive order forming a task force. This aggressive approach is long overdue and should be applied to other taxpayer-funded programs. The issue is urgent, with audits revealing that Medicaid issued more than $540 billion in improper payments between 2015 and 2024. Critics argue that these policies undermine safety net programs for the impoverished. However, Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator of the federal Centers for Medicare &Medicaid Services, says his agency has halted payments to about 450 hospices and home health care centers in Los Angeles and will require every state within 30 days to submit a plan to reevaluate the health care providers participating in their Medicaid programs.
