Published on April 19, 2026.
Saturday was the last day of early voting in Virginia's special election. Voters are deciding on whether to proceed with plans for new Congressional districts ahead of the midterms. The proposed amendment would allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts "to restore fairness in the upcoming elections" The new map is designed to give Democrats a 10-to-1 advantage, part of a national Democratic response to GOP-led redistricting efforts in other states. Currently, Virginia Democrats hold six seats to Republicans' five. If the amendment passes, Republicans argue it is a power grab. The final day to vote is Election Day on Tuesday.
