A Florida grand jury has indicted surgeon Thomas Shaknovsky on charges of second-degree manslaughter for the 2024 death of 70-year-old William Bryan, who was scheduled to have his spleen removed in a minimally invasive (laparoscopic) procedure. Instead of removing the spleen from the abdomen and opening the abdominal cavity, Shaknovovsky allegedly cut his healthy liver from his body as he bled out. The charges stem from an investigation by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and a state health department investigation led to an emergency suspension of Shaknovich's license in September 2024. If convicted, the accused could face up to 15 years in prison.
