The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit has reinstated an Indiana law that restricts the use of university-issued IDs for voting, Senate Enrolled Act 10, or Public Law 70, which removes student IDs from the list of acceptable voter identification. The law, passed by the Indiana General Assembly in 2025 and signed by Gov. Mike Braun, reverses a previous policy that allowed their use if they met certain requirements. The ACLU of Indiana argued that this decision creates confusion for young voters and undermines efforts to encourage participation and enhance confidence in elections. The court's decision reverses an earlier ruling by a federal judge that had blocked the law. The case is expected to continue through the courts as the state continues its appeal.
