When my partner and I bought a 1928 Arts & Crafts bungalow home in Portland, Oregon, in 2023, the kitchen was transformed into a 1970s kitchen inspired by deVOL kitchens and their English country aesthetic. The couple gutted the kitchen down to just cabinet boxes and refinished the floors everywhere. They also added a vintage Crane sink and skinny cabinets and countertops to create extra prep space for cooking. The transformation was more cost-friendly than anticipated and a process that required a sledgehammer to get the placement right and cut the hole correctly. The kitchen was also covered in beadboard and a new beadboard hood was added to the wall behind the stove. The pair also covered the walls to add some useful charm and cover up the previous homeowners' previous wood from drywall.
