Judge declares mistrial in FirstEnergy bribery case

A judge in Summit County, Ohio, has declared a mistrial in the trial of former FirstEnergy executives, Chuck Jones and Michael Dowling, accused of bribing a state regulator. The decision comes after a jury failed to reach a verdict on various charges and was dismissed on the ninth day of deliberations. Jones and Dowling were charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, bribery, tampering with records, and conspiracy. The case was concluded by a status conference with attorneys to set a new trial date.
