Investigation: Hundreds of LA hospices have multiple indicators of fraud

A CBS News investigation has revealed that hundreds of Los Angeles County hospices have multiple indicators of fraud, including multiple hospices in one building, high patient counts, high rates of terminally ill patients later discharged alive, and excessive billing. The state auditor reported in 2003 that Los Angeles county had seen a 1,500% increase in hospice companies since 2010, more than six times the national average. The problem has continued to grow despite efforts by officials to stamp out it in California. This issue has become a political issue as California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, eyes a potential presidential run.
