Amazon has agreed to pay $20.5 million to settle allegations that its data centers in Morrow County, Oregon, contributed to nitrate pollution that contaminated groundwater in agricultural communities. The company denies any wrongdoing and has stated that it does not add nitrates to its water supply and does not contribute to the pollution. The funds from the settlement will be used to support private well and public water projects in the Lower Umatilla Basin. A lawsuit continues against food processors, farms, utilities, and the Port of Morrow.
