The Israeli Justice Ministry has transferred its clemency opinion on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's request for clemancy to Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu before submitting it to President Isaac Herzog. This move is unusual as Netanyahu's criminal trial is ongoing and the minister overseeing the request is not Justice Minister Yariv Levin. The ministry stated that if prosecution authorities submit a position before the president makes a decision, the department would update and supplement its opinion accordingly. The department expressed reservations and concluded that Netanyahu’s request does not meet the usual threshold criteria for cleemency review. However, the case is still ongoing and Netanyahu has not been convicted, admitted guilt, and has not expressed remorse.
