Rosanna Arquette has defended Harvey Weinstein's claims that women's claims about alleged rapes and assaults were exaggerated from behind bars, insisting that the rapes and sexual assaults he has been accused of "happened." In a statement obtained by PEOPLE and shared on Instagram, she stated that she has never exaggerated her assault and that her account of what happened has never changed. She also highlighted that prior to Weinstein's convictions, which were overturned due to procedural reasons, were substantiated by journalists through a rigorous pre-publication process and that he was given the full benefits of due process. Despite a split verdict in New York, Weinstein was convicted in California on charges that he raped an actress in a Beverly Hills hotel. He remains in prison and is awaiting a retrial for a third count of criminal sexual act relating to Jessica Mann.
