High fire danger today as strong winds sweep the South Plains

Strong winds and extremely dry conditions across the South Plains are causing a high fire risk, with a Red Flag Warning in effect until 8pm for most of the area. The day will continue to be windy, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph. Temperatures are expected to reach the 90s. The weather will calm down after sunset, but the threat of the fire will remain. A cold front is expected to move through mid-week and bring widespread rain chances.
