EneRenew, a startup in San Francisco, has launched a pilot pilot on Treasure Island to enable rapid electric vehicle charging in dense urban neighborhoods. The company's X-Caddies, which move on quiet electric motors and are guided by sensors, navigate to parked vehicles and charge them on demand without human assistance. The robots can be charged in different locations, an "energy shift" that is more friendly to utility companies like PG&E as high-speed charging is not "friendly" to them. The pilot site is set to launch 10 pilot sites throughout the Bay Area in the coming months, with about half of these will be located in the San Francisco area. The startup is currently self-funded and is raising its first funding round.
