Protesters Push For 'ICE Free’ Ordinance In Marin County

The proposed 'ICE Free' ordinance would prohibit the use of county property, resources and personnel for federal immigration enforcement, except when required by a judicial warrant or court order. The measure also mandates public reporting on local immigration activity and requires law enforcement officers to wear visible identification. The proposal is supported by a coalition led by the Marin County Democratic Socialists of America and aims to build upon the California Values Act, which already restricts local cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. However, Marin County Sheriff Jamie Scardina has opposed this, stating that his office already communicates with federal immigration authorities.
