The Boys & Girls Club of Lake County in Waukegan, Illinois, provides meals for 560 children, ages between kindergarten and high school, who also attend schools in three different districts receiving free breakfast and lunch daily. The meals are prepared in the club's commercial kitchen at the club’s flagship location and are prepared for children at one of 11 club locations in the area. Robert Collins, the executive chef and National Service Food Program director, said his primary goal is to ensure the meals are balanced and nutritious. The club's senior development manager, Nina Latusek, said parents often say the healthy dinners help them save money for activities they love, such as sports and extracurricular activities, and make evenings less stressful.
