Riot BBQ co-owners, Manny Barella and Patrick Klaiber, are set to open a new eatery, Chicken Riot, in the former Truffle Cheese Shop space at 2906 East Sixth Avenue on March 25. The restaurant is described as a “love letter to chicken” and aims to combine Texas barbecue with traditions of Northern Mexico. The menu will include whole chicken, low-smoked over oak wood, a technique they say creates the ideal combination of smoke flavor, crispy skin and juicy meat. The only non-chicken-focused main will be smoked turkey tamales with Barella's grandmother’s red mole sauce. The counter-service spot will include twenty seats and delivery apps.
