Monthly transportation utility fee will add to Portlanders' growing taxes and charges
Published on March 30, 2026.
The Portland City Council is set to consider new fees to help fund Portland's Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) through the "Transportation Utility Fee" (TUF). The fee will be added to the growing list of taxes and fees Portlanders already pay for. The money raised would go towards road repairs, sidewalks, and more PBOT maintenance projects. The city already has a $0.10 per gallon tax on gasoline and diesel, and the state's Oregon Gas Tax went into effect in January 2024. Other notable charges include a statewide transit payroll tax that covers 0.1% of your paycheck, TriMet district payroll tax, and a tax that helps fund local transit.
