AI is here in Hampton Roads, and businesses and organizations are embracing it

Artificial intelligence is already changing the workforce in Virginia, with up to 1.5 million jobs potentially impacted within five years, according to a statewide AI landscape assessment by the Virginia Chamber Foundation and GO (Growth & Opportunity) Virginia. The report found that Virginia Beach and Norfolk were among the top cities in the state for job postings for AI skills. The impact of AI does not necessarily equate to job losses, but it could make workers more efficient and change their roles by automating tasks. The Hampton Roads Workforce Council is working to incorporate AI into existing training programs and incorporate it into existing systems. The regional economy is heavily represented in shipbuilding, maritime operations, logistics, defense, health care and skilled trades where AI will enhance productivity rather than replace workers.
