Montgomery County's use of AI-powered school bus cameras is being questioned by a report suggesting that violations remain high and the county hasn't improved road design. The program, operated by BusPatrol, which provides local assistance catching bad drivers and splitting the fines with the government, was initially predicted to decrease in 2017. However, violations increased from 36 citations per active camera in 2020 to 34 last year. Critics argue that county officials are not following the data to make the road safer. BusPatrolled has issued over 375,000 tickets and $92 million in fines in MoCo.
