Shed Pounds, Save Big Bucks: FDA Clears Way for First Low-Price Generic Drug for Weight Loss

The US Food and Drug Administration has given a tentative approval for the first generic form of the drug, which could significantly reduce the cost of it. The company's injectable semaglutide could be finalised by 2032, when Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk's Ozempic patents expire. Once launched, the company will have 180 days of market exclusivity. The approval is seen as a crucial step towards providing affordable access to complex peptide therapies in the US.
