Public help to keep 3,000-year-old torc in Leicestershire

A public appeal for the protection of a 3,000-year-old piece of gold jewellery, discovered by metal detectorist Robert Ward in a field near Market Harborough, has successfully met its £150,000 target. The society believes the torc may be in the hands of a private collector or may be auctioned off to the highest bidder. The University of Leicester's 'A New History of Bronze' project plans to examine the rare object.
