Scammers tricked grandmother, Crysta Willis, into asking for $5,000 to bail out her grandson, Eric, from jail after he was involved in an accident. The scammer claimed that his grandson was at fault and therefore required the money to pay for his release. Willis, a member of the Cuyahoga County Scam Squad, challenged the scammer, stating that her grandson was upstairs while she was home. The FBI's Cleveland office warns of a common scam by text or phone call to scare unaware grandparents into helping their grandkids. Susan Licate from the Cleveland office advises people not to give any funds immediately and instead, ask questions about the person's identity.
