David Morales, a 59-year-old man who had lived in a Porterville home for over 20 years, was killed following a violent eviction following the death of Tulare County Sheriff's Deputy Randy Hoppert. The incident sparked an hours-long standoff that forced residents to barricade themselves inside their homes. The BearCat armored vehicle was removed from the neighborhood after the confrontation. Property records show that Morales had been evicted multiple times and was aware of the impending eviction. Despite previous concerns about Morales' behavior, neighbors say they never expected the situation to escalate into violence.
