NCCU students mourn classmate, call for stronger mental health support

North Carolina Central University students mourn the unexpected loss of sophomore Zyarre Prince, who was a prominent student leader and served as Mister Freshman for the 2024-2025 academic year. Students called for greater support for mental health, particularly in relation to access to counseling services. While Prince did not appear to be struggling with mental health issues, some students expressed concerns about bullying. The university acknowledged Prince's passing in an email to the campus community, praising his authenticity, confidence, and impact. The Counseling Center offered open office hours and after-hours support during this difficult period.
