Report finds rising rent and housing shortage drive Marion County eviction surge

A report by the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana has found an increase in eviction filings for renters across Marion County, with more than 116,000 filings between 2021 and 2025. The report also highlighted the highest rates in townships and neighborhoods across the county. The executive director, Amy Nelson, attributed rising rent and a shortage of affordable housing to these increases. She also highlighted concerns about landlord practices such as "forum shopping" where cases are filed in a different court that may be more favorable to landlords.
