Spirit exit adds pressure to Richmond summer fares

Spirit Airlines, a U.S. budget airline, has ceased operations after two bankruptcies and a failed attempt to secure a government bailout. The company announced that passengers who booked flights with credit cards or debit cards will automatically receive refunds. This decision comes as summer travel season begins with higher ticket prices due to the Iran war. Several airlines, including United and American, have pledged to aid Spirit customers.
