Los Angeles rapper Christopher Cheeks was shot and killed in 2024 outside a Midtown Nashville recording studio. The shooting took place in an alley between Hayes Street and Church Street. Cheeks, who went by the stage name Chris King, was with a group of friends when three men began attempting to rob them. The 29-year-old man was found with Cheeks in the parking garage of the Hayes Street Hotel, but both men were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. Two years later, 21-year old Jason Valentine was arrested on a multi-count indictment for first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and gun offenses.
