Edgar Ismalej-Gomez and Iris Rivera-Santos, the parents of a 2-year-old boy named Liam Rivera, were sentenced to 18 years and 20 years respectively in prison. The parents pleaded guilty in November to the death of their son, who was found dead and buried in Stamford Park over three years ago. The boy's death was caused by multiple blunt force injuries to the head. An earlier plea offer of 16 years was rejected by a judge. Police received information about a possible kidnapping and a child being harmed in the area of Cummings Park in 2000.
