After clashes between fans and security at an all-ages show at Chop Shop, the venue owner, Nick Moretti, has pledged to implement new measures to prevent crowd surfing. The incident occurred at a sold-out emo show on April 26 at the Wicker Park venue, which was later shut down early due to crowd surfing, leading to several attendees being expelled. The concert was attended by Chicago screamo band Your Arms Are My Cocoon and was headlined by Tyler Odom. While the venue's ownership stated crowd surfing is forbidden, fans and performers claimed the venue was unprepared and security behaved aggressively. The situation comes at a difficult time for local independent venues in Chicago, where nearly three out of four are currently not profitable due to rising artist fees, higher taxes, and soaring labor and production costs.
