Trump trashes Schumer, predicts deal to end shutdown, airport chaos

President Donald Trump has predicted that Democrats will soon make a deal to end the partial government shutdown, which has caused significant airport delays and disruption. Despite this, the two parties remain far apart in negotiations. Trump suggested that Schumer could compromise to avoid incentivizing Republican efforts to abolish the filibuster rule, which requires a 60-vote supermajority to pass legislation. Schumer and House Democratic Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries have demanded that any deal includes Trump agreeing to common-sense reforms to his immigration crackdown. The potential deal involves Democratic proposals to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security excluding ICE, while Republicans want to also fund Border Patrol and some portions of ICE.
