The Democratic nominee in a special House election in New Jersey, Mejia, has been evading questions about whether she would support House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) for speaker. Many Democrats running for Congress have been reluctant to support Jeffries' leadership due to grassroots frustration with the party establishment. MejIA, who won her primary in February, said she hasn't spoken with Jeffries yet and plans to work closely with him. She also mentioned that she has spoken with him about her concerns regarding rising costs and immigration.
