The apology was posted on B.C. Premier David Eby's social media and appeared on local news website Tumbled. After the shootings, OpenAI stated that it identified Van Rootstalaar's account using abuse detection efforts and considered referring it to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police but decided it didn't meet a threshold for referral.
